Dr. Aomawa Shields: Astronomer, Actor, Encourager

Dr. Aomawa Shields has a PhD in Astronomy and space biology from the University of Washington, an MFA in Acting from UCLA, and a Bachelors horizontal surface in Earth, Atmospheric, and Planetary Sciences from MIT.\n\nShe is presently an NSF Astronomy and Astrophysics Postdoctoral Fellow, a UC presidents Postdoctoral Program Fellow, and a 2015 TED Fellow at the University of California, Los Angeles, and the Harvard-Smithsonian perfume for Astrophysics.\n\nDr. Shields founded Rising Stargirls, an organization that teaches uranology to young girls of color using non-conventional methods such as theater, writing, and ocular art.
